The approach
Many newcomers in the Netherlands have to complete the inburgering. In most cases this means learning the Dutch language and gaining knowledge about how life in the Netherlands works. The inburgering ends with an exam that often has several parts, such as speaking, listening, reading, writing and knowledge of Dutch society.
Which requirements apply to you and which deadlines you have depends on your personal situation. These rules sometimes change and are set by bodies such as your municipality (gemeente) and DUO. Always check the DUO website or ask your municipality so you know exactly what applies in your case.
