Online 1-on-1 lessons from your own country, for all three exams: Speaking, Reading and Knowledge of Dutch Society, at level A1.
The exam
Do you want to live with your partner or family in the Netherlands and do you need an mvv (provisional residence permit)? Then you first take the civic integration exam abroad (basisexamen inburgering buitenland) in your own country. You take it on a computer at a Dutch embassy or consulate, at level A1. Only after you have passed all three exams can the mvv be applied for.
In the lessons you practise online with a teacher for Speaking, Reading and Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNS). This works from any country, also if your partner in the Netherlands arranges the lessons for you.
The exam
You can take the three exams on one day, in about 2 hours, but separate days are also allowed. This is what they look like:
| Exam | What you do | Length |
|---|---|---|
| KNS | Knowledge of Dutch Society: you see photos and hear questions about life in the Netherlands. For each question you choose from 2 answers. All questions are in the photo book of the self-study pack. | 30 questions, 30 minutes |
| Reading | You read short, simple texts and answer questions about them. | 19 questions, 35 minutes |
| Speaking | You answer 10 questions and complete 12 sentences. You record your answers on the computer. | 22 tasks, 30 minutes |
Each exam costs €50, all three together €150. You register and pay with DUO via naarnederland.nl and then make your own appointment at the embassy or consulate. You pass with at least a 6 (out of 10) for all three exams. If you fail one exam, you only retake that exam. The result arrives within 8 weeks.

Where lessons help
For KNS and Reading, the government's self-study pack is a good basis. You can download it for free, and after the Reading practice exam you see which answers were right.
For Speaking you don't: after the practice exam you get no result per question. That is where a teacher helps most. You hear straight away what can be better, and you practise the questions and sentences until they come naturally.
For the partner in the Netherlands
Often the partner in the Netherlands looks for the lessons. That is fine: you get in touch, and the lessons themselves are online with your partner, at a time that suits the country where your partner lives.
I explain in Dutch, English or Russian. In the free trial lesson you will see whether that works for your partner. After the exam and the mvv, your partner continues with civic integration in the Netherlands. Braials offers lessons for that too.
Your teacher
I teach 1-on-1 online Dutch lessons, also to beginners who do not live in the Netherlands yet. I can explain in Dutch, English or Russian.

That depends on what you can already do and how much time you have to practise on your own. In the free trial lesson we look at where you stand. After that you get a proposal with a plan towards the exam.
Yes. Fill in the form at the bottom with your own details and add who the lessons are for. The lessons themselves are online with your partner.
The whole exam costs €150: €50 for KNS, €50 for Reading and €50 for Speaking. You pay this to DUO, separately from the lessons. If you fail one exam, you register for that exam again and pay for it again.
For KNS and Reading it can be enough if you are good at studying on your own. You can download the pack for free, or buy it for €25. Speaking is harder on your own, because after the practice exam you don't see what was right. So you can also take lessons for Speaking only.
A passed exam stays valid. But once all three exams are passed, the mvv must be applied for within 1 year. If you wait longer, you have to take the exam again.
Not always. Sometimes an exemption applies, for example because of an illness or disability. You apply for that with the IND. Check ind.nl to see whether the exam applies to you.
Yes: the online beginners' course A0→A1 in a small group of at most 8 participants. An 8-week block costs €360, which is €15 per lesson hour, including the practice platform with homework. The lesson times are fixed and given in Dutch time, so check whether they suit the country where you live.
With the result, the mvv can be applied for. In the Netherlands you then continue with civic integration: the municipality invites you for an interview. Braials also offers lessons for the civic integration exam in the Netherlands.
